If you're an electrical contractor in Southern California, you need to stay ahead on lighting control and technology. A survey released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Parks Associates shows continued strong growth of smart home products in U.S. homes. In fact, the survey showed that 20% of households with broadband intend to purchase one or more smart home devices within the next year!

"With the smart phone being so common these days, it only makes sense that the market for smart home devices will continue to grow." Said Jimm Reifsnyder of Western Energy Control Solutions. "Sales of smart home devices are projected to be over 20 million in 2014 but will grow to almost 40 million by 2017. That's a huge growth potential for our clients and distributors in the electrical fields."

Lutron Electronics has been at the forefront of this concept called “Connected Home”. What began as a slow trickle of smart home products has now turned into a stream of products for smart homes to include lighting, security systems, networked thermostats, automated shading solutions, smart water leak detectors, smart smoke detectors, and more.

Lutron’s Caséta Wireless system with Smart Bridge will be a perfect way for electrical contractors to get their feet wet in this new product category.  Caséta Wireless is designed as a simple-to-install, simple-to-use lighting control system for consumers who want to add automated lighting, motorized shades and more to their homes.

Caséta Wireless Features

Currently the line includes the Caséta Wireless In-Wall Dimmer (which works with incandescent, CFL, LED and halogen lights), the Caséta Wireless Lamp Dimmer (plugs into a standard wall socket) Lutron Serena® and Sivoia® QS Trathlon® battery powered wireless shades, and Lutron's Pico® remote. The system is also compatible with a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat and other products.

Managing the devices within a Caséta-based system is the Smart Bridge unit. It acts as the central processor and gateway for the system. Lutron says the Smart Bridge supports as many as 50 devices.

Key to the system is the iOS or Android app which allows the user to operate all the integrated devices, run scenes and lighting zones, and access the system remotely from a smart phone or tablet.
