The Lighting Brand has just released another AIA .25 LU continuing education course that details the recent and important changes to the 2019 ASHRAE codes and standards. Below are further details about this course:

Program: Architecture, Design and Building Science

This course explores the latest updates to the lighting and lighting controls requirements defined by the ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2019, Energy Standard for Buildings Except for Low-Rise Residential Buildings. The changes include modified lighting power allowances, mandatory commissioning, new rules for modeling lighting systems, and updates to the requirements for side-lighting, daylight-responsive controls and lighting controls in parking garages.

Audience: Architects, Engineers, Interior Designers
Presenter: Deborah Gottesman, P.Eng., MBA, LC, Assoc.IALD the Principal of Gottesman Associates - an award-winning architectural lighting design firm

Lighting layouts are not the same as lighting design. Quality lighting design begins with concept development - a form of programming for the visual environment that considers many elements such as perception, contrast, and visibility. This seminar outlines the steps taken on various diverse projects to address those essentials and create the desired mood, atmosphere, and functionality. The case studies span different sectors, from heritage to retail to residential, and identify the range of challenges that good design can help overcome, with many universal lessons.

At the end of the seminar, attendees will:
1. appreciate the link between the overall project goals and the ultimate lighting layout,
2. grasp what it means to light with intention, and
3. understand the critical stages where lighting design fits into the overall project design process.
